Popular Teenage Story Set in 1962’s Baltimore Inner City Comes Alive During Wall Street Theater’s Teen Musical Theater Production of HAIRSPRAY THE MUSICAL Rehearsals Begin October 8 – Show Dates November 15-17

September 18, 2018, Norwalk, CT: “People who are different, their time is coming!” assures Tracy Turnblad, the optimistic, racially color blind, dance obsessed teenage character in the hit musical Hairspray. Written by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, composer Marc Shaiman, lyricist Scott Wittman, and based upon John Waters’ 1988 film adaptation, this generationally charged story of family, segregation, acceptance, and puppy love, is wrapped in high energy dance sequences, a 60’s music vibe with bluesy undertones, and vibrant technicolor pop!

The Teen Musical Theater program at the Wall Street Theater, led by Artistic Director and Broadway alum Billy Blanks Jr, is thrilled to begin production on this iconic coming of age story. Students with the entertainment bug, for both front and back of the house disciplines, will be taken on a journey learning the many aspects of mounting a high-energy musical theater production. Students experience the audition process and move into each stage of production including acting, dance, singing, and improvisation under the tutelage of Wall Street Theater’s professional performers and producers. A special honor during the Hairspray teen program will be the opportunity to be mentored by none other than Tony Award Winner Lillias White, a true Broadway legend.

“This show offers such a range of story lines and important messages set against expressive music and high energy routines, “says Director Billy Blanks Jr, “It’s truly a show where students can play to such a broad range of strengths.”

The 6-week program for teens age 12-18 will start on October 1st and run through November 14th. Final performances will be the weekend of November 15, 16, and 17.
